  • Published prices run from US$9 to US$29 per employee a month: Playroll (from US$9), RemotePass (from US$15), Multiplier (from US$20, billed annually), Lano (from โ‚ฌ19) and US$29 at Deel, Remote, Papaya Global and Borderless AI.
  • Global payroll needs your own entity. It pays employees of a company you've set up in the country. Without one, you need an Employer of Record, which costs far more because the provider becomes the legal employer.
  • Starting prices aren't the whole bill: Playroll says minimums apply, and Multiplier adds setup, implementation, payment and statutory fees as applicable. Ask for an itemised quote.
  • 8 providers we track don't publish a payroll price: Oyster, Rippling, Globalization Partners, Pebl, Atlas HXM, RemoFirst, Rivermate and Safeguard Global.

If you already use a payroll bureau in each country, some providers sell a cheaper layer that pulls those payrolls into one set of reports without running them:

ProviderPublished priceWhat it does
PlayrollFrom US$2.07 per employee a month, plus US$21โ€“US$200 per pay groupGlobal payroll analytics: brings data from any local payroll provider into one place
LanoFrom โ‚ฌ3 per employee a month (about US$3)Payroll consolidation across your entities and local providers
DeelUS$5 per employee a monthPayroll Connect: one consolidated view across your in-country payroll vendors

The payroll fee is small next to the employer's own contributions, which you pay whichever provider runs payroll. At our guides' mid-level salaries, employer costs add 32.3% in Sweden and 25.2% in Portugal; see the Employer Cost Index for every country we cover.

When you compare quotes, check what's included: gross-to-net calculation, tax filings and statutory payments, payslips, year-end returns, and whether the provider pays employees and authorities for you or only calculates the amounts.

How much does global payroll cost per employee?
Published starting prices run from US$9 per employee a month (Playroll, with minimums) to US$29 (Deel, Remote, Papaya Global and Borderless AI), with RemotePass from US$15, Multiplier from US$20 billed annually and Lano from โ‚ฌ19. Several large providers quote only.
What's the difference between global payroll and an Employer of Record?
Global payroll runs pay for employees of your own legal entity in the country, so you remain the employer. An Employer of Record employs the person through its own entity, which is why EOR fees start much higher, from US$199 a month among the providers we track.
How much does payroll cost in Sweden?
The providers above publish one starting price rather than a price per country, so ask for the Swedish rate in writing. The larger cost is the employer's own contributions, about 32.3% on top of salary at our Swedish guide's mid-level salary.
How much does payroll cost in Portugal?
As in Sweden, published payroll fees are starting prices for all countries, so ask for the rate for Portugal. Employer costs add about 25.2% at our Portuguese guide's mid-level salary, and salaries are paid 14 times a year.
Does Oyster publish a global payroll price?
No. Oyster's pricing page lists EOR, contractor and HR advisory prices but no price for payroll of your own entities (checked 23 October 2026).
