- Poland has the most of the countries we cover, at 14 a year; Mexico the fewest with 8 mandatory rest days.
- Easter Sunday 2027 is 28 March 2027, which we calculated with the standard Western (Gregorian) algorithm and checked against France's own official 2027 calendar — it matches on every date both give, including Easter Monday, Ascension Day and Whit Monday.
- Germany and Switzerland set no single national list: each of Germany's states, and each Swiss canton, sets its own, so there's no one count or calendar to give for either country (our Germany figure isn't yet independently verified, so we've left it out of the table below).
- Several countries can't have a full 2027 calendar yet, because some or all of their holidays follow the lunar calendar, a moon sighting, royal proclamation or a government decree still to be issued: China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore.
- Sunday-to-Monday substitution is an explicit, verified rule in Belgium and South Africa: if the holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is also a holiday (Belgium's rule doesn't name the substitute day; South Africa's does).
How many public holidays each country requires by law. Our guides don't yet have a verified count for Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom.

For these countries, the number of public holidays is verified (see the table above), but a specific, reliable 2027 date list isn't possible yet, for the reason given. We'll add the calendar once each government publishes it.
- [China](/countries/china): Spring Festival, Dragon Boat and Mid-Autumn follow the lunar calendar, and the State Council also decides each year which weekends are swapped to form the holiday blocks; it typically announces this only a few months ahead.
- [South Korea](/countries/south-korea): Seollal and Chuseok follow the lunar calendar; the government confirms each year's dates and any substitute-holiday adjustments closer to the time.
- [Taiwan](/countries/taiwan): The Ministry of the Interior sets each year's calendar, including lunar-calendar holidays (Lunar New Year, Dragon Boat, Mid-Autumn) and weekend swaps, typically announced only months ahead.
- [Thailand](/countries/thailand): The cabinet announces each year's official holidays, including some Buddhist and royal observances tied to the lunar calendar.
- [Vietnam](/countries/vietnam): Tết (Lunar New Year) and its surrounding days follow the lunar calendar; the government confirms the exact 2027 dates closer to the year.
- [Malaysia](/countries/malaysia): The King's Birthday and several religious holidays (Hari Raya, Deepavali, Thaipusam and others) are set by royal proclamation or follow the Islamic or Hindu calendars.
- [Singapore](/countries/singapore): Several of Singapore's 11 holidays (Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Haji, Vesak Day, Deepavali) follow the Islamic, Buddhist or Chinese lunar calendars.
- [Colombia](/countries/colombia): Our verified rule confirms 10 of the 13 fixed-date holidays move to the following Monday, but doesn't specify which 10, so we can't build a reliable 2027 calendar from it.
- [Germany](/countries/germany): Public holidays are set by each of the 16 federal states, not nationally; our rule gives the national range (9 to 13) but not a state-by-state list.
- [Switzerland](/countries/switzerland): Public holidays are set by each canton, not nationally.
The EOR follows the public holiday calendar of the country where the employee is legally employed, not your own company's calendar. Build the local calendar into project planning and deadlines, especially around clustered holiday periods (Lunar New Year across much of Asia, or the Christmas–New Year run in Europe and Latin America).
Ask your provider how it handles a holiday that falls during an employee's annual leave, and whether working a public holiday is paid at a premium in that country; several of the rules above already set that out.
